The troop
Troop 3 was founded in 1937 and has been chartered ever since by the United Methodist Men of Cokesbury United Methodist Church, who give us the Scout Hut. In that time the troop has put more than a hundred and fifty Scouts through their Eagle boards of review, the first of them in 1949, and has spent something on the order of two and a half thousand days and nights in the field.
We are a boys' troop in the Gulf Coast Council. We camp at least once a month, do a week of summer camp every June, and run a high-adventure trip most years — Philmont, Sea Base, the Okefenokee, and a good deal of Blackwater.
Youth led, and we mean it
The Senior Patrol Leader runs the meeting. The Patrol Leaders' Council plans the programme. Patrols plan and cook their own food. Adults train, drive, sign, and keep everyone alive; they do not run the troop. A meeting that looks slightly chaotic is usually a meeting that is working.
The trails
Troop 3 established the NAS Pensacola Historical Trail in 1976 and the Fort Pickens Historical Trail in 1982, and still maintains both. Units from across the country hike them and order the patches and medals from us.
Where we meet
The Scout Hut, behind Cokesbury United Methodist Church, Pensacola. Tuesday nights, 6:30–8:30 PM. Come in through the parking lot at the rear; the Hut is the separate building with the flagpole. Visitors are welcome at any meeting without arranging it first.
Safety
Every registered adult has completed Youth Protection Training and is renewed every two years. Two-deep leadership on every activity, no one-on-one contact, no exceptions. If something concerns you, tell the Scoutmaster or the Committee Chair — and if it is urgent, tell the council directly. That is not disloyalty; that is the system working.
